Tamiami is a suburban community in the southwest region of Miami-Dade. It is a residential area consisting primarily of grand single-family homes with several established apartment buildings and townhomes throughout the area. The community is close to Florida International University and is neatly bordered by SW 8th Street to the North and Coral Way to the South. Its eastern border starts at the Florida Turnpike

More than 90% of the homes in the area were built within 1970 and 1999, with most of the residents in this area being long-term homeowners.


Tamiami houses several gyms and fitness centers, including LA Fitness, Orangetheory, and a couple of local YouFit facilities. The area also boasts a few big-name grocers, like Publix Supermarket, Sedanos, Winn-Dixie, and ALDI. Daycares and veterinarians are also incredibly easy to find as there are more than a dozen of each in this small community that only spans 7.5 square miles.

In case of an emergency, Kendall Regional Medical Center is also very close by, as well as over ten medical clinics and specialty doctors. Highly rated spas are also scattered all over the community for quick and easy self-care services that are always very close to home.

Dining & Shopping

Guests and residents alike will have no trouble finding charming businesses to shop with at any of the many shopping plazas in Tamiami, Florida. Shoppers can visit quaint plazas around the community, packed with boutique stores and small businesses that help support the local economy.

For indoor malls, Tamiami locals frequent the extensive Dolphin Mall, which houses designer brands like ALDO, American Eagle, Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren. By contrast, large plazas like the Concord Shopping Plaza or the Shops at Beacon Lakes, boast large and affordable retailers like Ross, Michael’s, and Dick’s.

Tamiami has the added benefit of being further out west in Miami-Dade, making one of the closest neighborhoods to the up and coming American Dream Mall. American Dream Mall is set to be the largest mall in the U.S. and will reportedly cover a massive area of over 6.2 million square feet!

Parks & Recreation

Unsurprisingly, Tamiami is well-known for its parks and trails, most notably being the Tamiami Park. This park has everything from cooling pools and broad baseball fields, to summer programs for sports-driven kids and children with disabilities.

Tamiami Trail Park is yet another local fan favorite, that is considered suitable for children, and great for individuals and families looking to take a relaxing stroll through nature. Other parks include Concord Park, which is popular for basketball and baseball, and Royale Green Park that boasts a popular children’s playground. There is also a camping spot over on Hennington Island, which is popular among locals for an enjoyable picnic in the afternoon.

Culture & Events

The grand and spectacular Miami Dade County Fair, known locally as simply “The Fair” is held in this Miami community at the Tamiami Park. Once a year, for 21 days, thousands of visitors from all over South Florida gather for exciting rides, fun exhibits, and decadent candied apples. The 21-day event is the biggest fair in all of Florida and is the 27th largest event in North America.

Though not considered a “college town” by any stretch of the imagination, Tamiami is essentially neighbors Florida International University. This creates ample opportunity for residents to participate in professional or educational events around campus, or take a short drive to South Miami, Kendall, or Coral Gables for other art, music, or cultural events in Miami.
