Westchester
Westchester, Florida, is a small suburban community located west of Coral Gables in Miami Dade County. It sits squarely between SW 8th Street (to the North), the 826/Palmetto Expressway (to the East), and SW 97th Ave and Bird Road to the West and South, respectively.
The area is made up almost entirely of single-family homes that feature a historic mix of post-war and mid-century modern-style houses throughout the community.
Amenities
Though Westchester only has an area of 4 square miles, the area has almost two dozen medical centers for varying specialties. There are also over ten pharmacies and several grocery stores like Sedano’s, Target, Publix, and Presidente. Several indie grocers are also located within Westchester along with nearly a dozen vets, about as many gyms and spas, and a handful of clubs and lounges scattered throughout the community.
Childcare is also extremely abundant throughout Westchester, with more than ten daycares and children’s academies populating the area.
Dining & Shopping
Westchester is the proud home of an eclectic blend of fine restaurants where residents and guests can dine on various worldly cuisines from Japan, Colombia, and many other countries, including Brazil, Cuba, Italy, and Peru. Familiar names in food are also readily available with a wide variety of fast-food chains and casual eateries throughout the community.
Shopping couldn’t be easier in an area like Westchester with malls and districts all over town like the Coral Way Shopping Plaza, the Westchester Shopping Center, the Bird Road Shoppes, and Dadeland Mall, which houses stores like ALDO, J.Crew, Apple, Coach, and Steve Madden. Shops at Merrick Park are also a quick and easy drive to shop with designers like Gucci, Jimmy Choo, Neiman Marcus, and more.
Parks & Recreation
Westchester houses several conveniently located parks, including Banyan Park, Miami Coral Park, and the Coral Estates Park. Most of these parks are considered good for children, and dog parks are also nearby, located just south of the community in less than a five-minute drive on the highway.
Culture & Events
Given its proximity to Coral Gables and the fact that it’s a straight shot to Downtown Miami, Westchester, FL allows residents to enjoy the peace of a residential area without the loud, bustling distractions of a big city. Residents need only drive east towards the beaches for adult or youth-friendly events, where they will find themselves surrounded by a host of activities happening in Miami at any time of the year.
Tropical Park is a hotspot for Christmas lovers as “Santas Enchanted Forest” opens its gates for a full eight weeks just after Halloween. The park also holds the Southwest Community Farmers' Market every Saturday and has three state-of-the-art show arenas for horse shows year-round.
